Melamine is a chemical substance that is usually colorless. It is used to produce melamine resins. These resins are then processed into glues and adhesives. The material is shatterproof and lightweight when formaldehyde is added and is therefore often used as reusable plastic tableware.
Practical, but harmful to health
The advantages of lightness and break resistance come with the negative health aspect . If the material is heated above 70°C, harmful substances are released. These then end up directly in the food and can cause various symptoms. Among other things, the material can cause cancer and attack mucous membranes .
Other product groups
Products made from melamine resin foam form a smaller product group. It is used as a non-flammable upholstery material and is used in airplane and cinema seats. It also serves as an insulating material that absorbs sound waves . It is therefore used in cinemas or recording studios, but also in classrooms and offices.
Melamine in cleaning
Melamine is also used in cleaning, namely as a dirt eraser. The abrasive properties of the melamine resin foam have smoothing and cleaning properties . This means that coarse dirt can be removed from various surfaces. Even sensitive surfaces can be treated with it. If the sponge is slightly moistened, the dirt eraser turns into very fine sandpaper. No other cleaning agent is required for use .
melamine cleaning pads
Furthermore, some cleaning pads for vending machines are also made of melamine. Here too, they have the special property that the material is significantly finer than microfiber , 300 times finer to be precise. The removal of gray haze and abrasion is possible without additional cleaning agents . This saves resources and time. Important, as with all other cleaning processes: test material compatibility in an inconspicuous place!
