Many use it as a fashion accessory, others find it annoying. But since April 27, 2020 at the latest, it has been compulsory in Germany - the face mask. And since then, many have been asking themselves whether it is really that important. For some time now, people have even been demonstrating against the Corona regulations in order to get rid of this obligation as quickly as possible. But what is right? Is the face mask really that important?
How the virus is transmitted
In order to answer these questions, we have to backtrack a little. It is important at this point to clarify how the dangerous COVID-19 is transmitted in the first place.
There is a lot of speculation about the new virus, because it has not yet been properly researched. What is known, however, is that the virus is transmitted via droplets or aerosols. This happens when coughing or speaking, but also when sneezing.
If you look at the pictures from the past, such as in Italy or Spain, you can immediately see how dangerous and unpredictable the new virus is. Within a very short time, the virus has spread to many different countries and has already cost many people their lives. It is clear that the virus should be taken seriously. But which protective measures really help?
Face masks as protection for others
The face mask helps to protect other people from fine droplets and particles that are emitted when coughing, sneezing or speaking. In this way, the mask wearer protects others from possible infection. The mask should always be worn when many people meet in public for a longer period of time or where the distance rules cannot be observed. It is clear here that the mask alone is not enough.
Further protective measures
You should ensure that you keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters, especially in public spaces, in queues, and at work. You should also avoid shaking hands during these times. Large gatherings should be kept to a minimum or avoided altogether. Washing your hands regularly is particularly important.
Important component in the fight against COVID-19
The face mask is one of many building blocks in the fight against the dangerous Covid virus. But probably one of the most important.
It doesn't matter whether you wear a conventional disposable mask, a homemade cotton mask or a plastic one. What is important is that you wear a face mask. Because without these important protective measures, the virus can continue to spread.
