Cleaning cloths come in all sorts of different types, be it the material or the look, and you can never have enough of them. In this blog post, we explain the differences between cleaning cloths and which areas of the home they are best for.
What are the advantages of linen sheets?
Linen cloths originate from the fibers of the flax plant. These fibers are smooth and can therefore only trap a small amount of air. The high-quality material is both ecological and hygienic and is therefore an ideal alternative to plastic cleaning cloths. Thanks to a special weave that forms a waffle structure, a linen cloth can absorb a lot of liquid . Furthermore, linen has naturally antibacterial properties and is therefore suitable for cleaning in the kitchen. Linen is also perfect as a tea towel because it is lint-free . A very big sustainable plus point is that flax also grows in Europe. This means that you can pay attention to regionality when buying. Linen cloths are machine washable up to 40°C and a low spin speed can be selected so that the material lasts longer.
The classic – cotton towels
Cotton absorbs liquids very well and is therefore ideal for drying objects or surfaces. If the cotton cloth is slightly moistened, it is also perfect for removing dust . Due to their special absorbency, most sponge cloths are also made of cotton and, in combination with cellulose, are used for washing up. Due to the high cotton content, the cloths take a long time to dry, but they are machine washable . Cotton cloths can also be cut from old sheets; these can then be used to clean oily and dirty things and then disposed of immediately. Stains are usually difficult to remove from cotton cloths.
The all-rounder – microfiber cloths
Microfiber cloths also have excellent absorbency . Their special structure is also suitable for removing dust. Because microfibers are lint-free , they can be used to clean smooth surfaces without leaving residue or streaks . In general, the microfiber cloth is an all-rounder and can be used for various areas. The microfiber cloth is also machine washable up to 60°C and dries quickly. The almost only, but also biggest disadvantage of microfiber cloths is that they are bad for the environment . Microfibers are mostly made of petroleum, and the degradation of this is harmful to the environment. You can find more information about microfiber cloths here.
What other alternatives are there?
In addition to the standard materials mentioned, there are also cleaning cloths made from bamboo . We have already written a separate blog post about this. You can find it here. There are also cleaning sponges made from loofah . Loofah is a pumpkin plant that can be dried and then used as a cleaning sponge. The natural sponge is also a true all-rounder and can be used as a peeling sponge or for cleaning. Last but not least, leather can also be used for cleaning . It is particularly used to polish high-quality and smooth surfaces. Chrome, glass and mirrors are cleaned streak-free. Leather is cleaned with cold water and air-dried. There is also a detailed post about chamois leather, which you can find here. Now you are spoiled for choice and can choose between different cleaning cloths. Which is your favorite?
