Marble belongs to the group of soft stones and is a very durable, noble and one of the oldest natural stones , it is still very popular today. However, in order to maintain its beautiful texture and unmistakable shine, marble requires special attention. Marble is available in different colors and shapes, from reddish to white and from black to gray.
How to properly clean and care for marble
Marble is used to make tombstones, window sills, kitchen worktops and similar items. Due to the fact that marble is very sensitive to acids, careless cleaning/care can cause unwanted damage, which may even be irreversible.
To protect your marble surface, we would like to recommend a few tips:
You should generally only clean marble with little or no water (dry cleaning). This will help prevent limescale deposits. You can use nylon pads for polishing, which are particularly gentle to use.
If the marble surface is covered in coarse dirt, this should be removed with a hand brush or a broom . It is important to ensure that no hard bristles are used and that you only use soft bristles, possibly made of natural hair, to remove dirt.
Which products can be used?
Before you start an intensive marble cleaning and use various cleaning products, you should look at the pH value of each product. Mineral water has a pH value of 6 and heating water a pH value of around 8 and the cleaners you want to use should definitely not have a lower or higher value, otherwise it will be more acidic or alkaline and these acids are harmful to the marble and risk damage. Therefore, use a neutral cleaner .
Always avoid abrasive, harsh, corrosive and acidic stone cleaners!
An additional cleaning product specifically for natural stone can be included in the cleaning process. A small tip : marble can also be polished with baby oil. If marble is badly damaged due to misuse, we recommend consulting a professional. The "repair" is not something you can easily do yourself.
