Marble is a noble material and is used in various areas of interior design. In the kitchen, marble is used to make a worktop, in the living room it is used to make a window sill and in the living room it is also used to make the floor. Minerals are exposed to high heat and pressure in the earth's interior and thus form marble. The transformation of the minerals takes a very long time. The different rocks allow for great variety, so marble is available in many shades and grains. In order for the natural stone to retain its shine, a few points must be observed when cleaning. Tips and tricks are explained in more detail below.
Care from the first minute is important
Marble care should begin from the first minute after it has been laid or installed. When laying a marble floor, care must be taken to ensure that it is not walked on during the construction period. Dirt, dust and sand are common on a construction site, but expensive marble floors become scratched and dull when walked on. Therefore, an air-permeable carpet should be laid during this time, but not boards, as these also damage the floor.
This keeps the marble beautiful for longer
An initial cleaning is carried out immediately after laying or fitting. It should be ensured that the cement film is removed promptly. As soon as the film has dried a little, cleaning becomes more difficult. A basic cleaning should also be carried out every 12 to 24 months . Neutral or alcohol-based cleaners are best. Immediately after cleaning, rinse with clear water. Special cleaners for removing cement film should be avoided because they attack the marble. In general, special cleaners should be used with caution. In addition to the initial and basic cleaning, regular maintenance cleaning should be carried out, which consists of a daily dry cleaning and a weekly wet cleaning. With marble, less is more; it is better to use clear water or water diluted with alcohol. Under no circumstances should limescale cleaners, alkaline cleaners, acids, alkalis, surfactant-containing cleaners, fruit acids, vinegar, wine, oil or fat be used because these attack the marble and sometimes even decompose it.
The following tips and tricks make cleaning easier and extend the shine of the marble
- To protect the marble, a dispersion can be applied after the initial cleaning. An approved natural stone dispersion is used for this purpose.
- If the marble is very worn, it can be polished, sanded and crystallized. This gives it a new shine and makes it look like new again. This can remove both fine and deep scratches. Crystallization hardens the surface and gives it a new shine.
- High-pressure cleaners should not be used outdoors, as the high pressure will damage the structure and dirt will build up more quickly. A gentle steam cleaner is more suitable and should be used carefully. Regular use can make the marble porous. A soft brush is usually sufficient.
Less is more with marble!
All in all, cleaning marble is easy if you pay attention to a few aspects. The motto here is particularly: "Less is more!" Use clean water rather than strong detergents and clean the marble carefully so as not to damage the structure!
