Cleaning the oven – These home remedies help

Backofen reinigen – Diese Hausmittel helfen

YunJing Chan |

Cleaning the oven is one of the most annoying household chores in my opinion, but if you use it frequently, it has to be done sooner or later. In today's article, we'll introduce some home remedies that are effective against burnt-on food if you don't have any oven cleaner to hand. In the first cleaning step, we'll briefly explain the cleaning steps and in the next, we'll introduce the various home remedies you can use for cleaning.

Cleaning the oven in brief

First, all items should be removed from the oven. Heavily soiled racks and baking trays can be soaked in a hot water bath while the oven is being cleaned. A little dishwasher powder, an aspirin tablet, denture cleaner or cola can be added to the water to make it easier to remove the encrustations. Later, the dirt can be washed off with a sponge. Before you can start cleaning the oven, all loose food remains should be removed. Next, it's the oven door's turn. A paste made from baking soda and water can be used to clean the door . Apply the paste to the glass door and allow it to work. Then work it over with a sponge. A glass scraper can help with stubborn dirt and a toothbrush can be used for angled corners.

These household remedies are suitable for oven cleaning

Now we come to the nitty-gritty. In this section we will present you with various ways of cleaning the interior of grease and food residue. Baking powder is a real all-rounder . To do this, mix the baking powder with water and leave the paste to work for up to 30 minutes. Dishwasher powder mixed with water is also suitable for cleaning. The dishwasher powder paste should be left to work for several hours. Acid can also remove stubborn dirt. Vinegar or a lemon is suitable for this. Mix the vinegar with a little washing-up liquid and apply to the dirt. Leave to work for about 5 minutes. Halve the lemon and sprinkle the halves with salt. The lemon can now be used like a sponge and the lemon juice also serves as a cleaning agent. A somewhat unusual household remedy is salt. Moisten the oven and sprinkle with salt. Heat the oven to 50°C and turn it off as soon as the salt turns brown. After the oven has cooled down, the dirt can be removed with a cloth.

Special oven cleaners for quick cleaning

Of course, you can also use an oven cleaner. In most cases, this simply needs to be sprayed on and can be wiped away with the dirt after it has taken effect. However, make sure that you wipe with clean water and, even better, set the oven to at least 100°C and let the oven evaporate. This will reliably remove all chemical residues before you prepare food in it. To clean the side walls as well, you can put a bowl of water and lemon juice/vinegar in the oven and heat the oven at around 120°C for an hour. This will remove all dirt.

Tips for easier oven cleaning

Finally, we have some tips on how to keep the oven clean and thus make the big cleaning easier.

- Remove food residues or other dirt promptly so that they do not burn in

- Use baking paper under full casserole dishes and when baking

- Additional baking tray can be used as a dirt catcher

- Oven liner can prevent burnt food from sticking to the floor

- Regular cleaning of the oven prevents heavy encrustations

We hope that these tips can make cleaning your oven easier for you! Have fun cleaning!
